This was an amusing novella but missed the mark due to its brevity. I even felt as though I was being rushed as I read it. This could have been a delightful read if it had been more developed. I'm beginning to get a bit bored by the novella genre and have found myself going back to some old favorites and rereading them to slake my thirst for P and P variations.Product details

Darcy Spotless Reputation A Pride and Prejudice Variation edition by Jane Grix Romance eBooks Reviews
This was a quick and sweet rendition and gave just the right amount of humor and character for its length! I highly enjoy Jane Grix's P&P variations for their length, quality and humorous parts.
Charles knows what he likes and Mr. Daracy worried about his reputation being ruined by a singular event. Mrs. Bennett and Caroline at their best, or worst. This is an exciting Pride and Prejudice Journey. I enjoy a well developed Novella, and THIS is one.
Most of the drama is removed and story ends at the Netherfield Ball. I liked this Elizabeth and Darcy but there relationship is tame compared to cannon.
Jane Grix always comes up with cute stories that move quickly, as this one does. It doesn't take long for Elizabeth and Darcy to fall in love, though he reacts badly when he believes Elizabeth has betrayed him. Love that Lizzy is near-sighted and needs glasses!
Very nicely developed short story.
Imagination.... Oh Naked Mr Darcy in the back garden. It was fun to read because he and Lizzie don't spend all those months in angst. Funny though that Caroline's action is the direct cause of Darcy's accepted proposal to Lizzie.
What can I say? Darcy and Elizabeth had an encounter of another kind. Yahoo!! Jane Grix has the most creative imagination. This was so OOC [out of character] that I wondered who these people were. Darcy would never… anyway, in this story he did… so, just go with it. The story moved so quickly that I was finished before I even had time to get comfortable in my chair.
I think Lady Catherine mentioned bathing in cool water in P&P. Apparently, Darcy was another proponent of a cool dunking in his ablutions. I can’t imagine the pond being very clean, but that is neither here nor there. This was a universe Grix created for her characters and, in her universe, maybe the pond was clean. While Darcy took a dunking, someone stole his clothes and he ran [literally] into Elizabeth Bennet as he attempted to get back to the house. Yeah, OOC; however, he did make an impression. Yeah, she was impressed alright.
Darcy hid behind a bush [shades of It’s A Wonderful Life when Mary hid in the hydrangea], and Elizabeth loaned him her shawl so he could make it back to the house. Jane was sick and Elizabeth had come to help take care of her. Due to their encounter, the verbal sword play took on a different stance and Caroline noticed that they were starting to enjoy each other. Insert the green-eyed monster… she was jealous and vindictive… poor Elizabeth.
Enter the bottom-feeding, low-life, slug, rat-dropping… yeah, it’s Wickham and his lies. Due to the rapid-fire speed of this story, we don’t get to spend much time in a scene before it’s over. I wanted more interaction, more page time with our characters, but we were denied.
As we worked toward that HEA, Elizabeth’s family did all they could at the Netherfield Ball to embarrass her and Jane. Caroline was delighted as it gave her the ammunition she needed to sink Bingley’s affection for Jane and her family. I loved how Bingley and Darcy’s conversation, regarding the Bennet sisters, took a different turn in this story.
This was a quick read, cute, clean [other than Darcy being naked], PG-13 [no graphic descriptions], and I enjoyed it. I would have liked to see it fleshed out more. There was an epilogue that was adorable; I love a good epilogue. I just wanted more. I give it 3.5-stars, round to 4-stars. It made me laugh.
I started this on fanfivction but couldn' t wait for more postings. This would have been better were it developed to the extent of a full novel. I too am unhappy about the current trend for novellas, but I am enjoying rereading my hundreds of older P&P lengthy goodies as well as the in depth stories occasionally making an appearance currently.
This was an amusing novella but missed the mark due to its brevity. I even felt as though I was being rushed as I read it. This could have been a delightful read if it had been more developed. I'm beginning to get a bit bored by the novella genre and have found myself going back to some old favorites and rereading them to slake my thirst for P and P variations.
